ABOUT
the exhibition
Gathering and collecting found objects is the inherent occupation of an assemblage artist. Whether the artist uses discarded building materials scavenged from a former industrial site or old, miniature boxcars purchased from an antique store, these artists are bound by their desire to collect. An assemblage is a grouping of unrelated things or people, and in the context of this exhibition refers to the use of found, man-made objects and/or salvaged materials as a medium for art.
Reclaimed | Retold will feature work by six artists, each exploring assemblage in a unique way. Participating artists include Joel Armstrong (Siloam Spring, AR), Mike Bennion (Haverford, PA), Katie Dell Kaufman (Takoma Park, MD), Bill Kinsey (Richmond, VA), Jack Knight (Long Neck, DE), and Chuck Scalin (Richmond, VA).
Located in the heart of Richmond’s Arts District, Reclaimed | Retold will be on view at 6 East Broad Street from April 3 – 25, 2015 on Saturdays and by appointment only. The opening reception will be held during First Friday on April 3 from 6 – 9 pm. Please visit the show for an opportunity to view artwork that is made of objects that have been reclaimed and their stories retold.
